Home FAQ Can I include children and relatives that do not live with me in my individual income tax return as my dependents?

Can I include children and relatives that do not live with me in my individual income tax return as my dependents?

No, according to the Internal Revenue Code a dependent is someone that lives with you (in the same address) all year long, and that is financially supported by you alone. Even if you send money to help a relative or child that lives some place else, it is still not considered a dependent for tax purposes.
